Lots of skateparks opening and being approved.

New Orleans has approved 2 sites for skateparks and we will assist in  
raising funds for them. 
We will also host the skate and bmx events at the gulf coast outdoor  
recreation trade show in New Orleans Aug 17-19. In addition to the events we  will 
hold a mini skatepark expo within the expo and it will cover:
instructor certification
risk management
site selection and master planning
Youth ministries
private skateparks
Speakers include: 
Heidi Lemmon- SPAUSA 
Vince Sanchez- International Action Sports Federation
Reverend Thomas Ziegert - Youth Ministries
Austin Miller- Mobelys Skatepark 
Jason Hoggatt - BREC Assistant Area Supervisor, Extreme Sports  Facilities
Who should attend??? City managers, rec & parks , risk managers and of  
course the show will be hands on fun for all skaters and BMX  riders!!!
SABR will be there all 3 days!
Exhibitors will be able to sell retail to the public as well as wholesale  to 
their vendors.
And of course New Orleans needs this trade show to help with the rebuilding  
of their city. It will be FUN and all for a good cause. Hope to see you  there.

GROMFEST July 12-18 in Whistler BC. Canada
A national AM contest for 18 and under - open to anyone.
Snowboard and Skateboard. Whistler is a beautiful place to vacation and the  
activities will be fun and challenging for the kids. There is lots for adults  
and other family members to do while your kids are competing. Whistler is 
going  to home to the 2012 winter Olympics and is a first class resort so 
whatever else  you like to do - hike, bike, swim, wind surf, kite board, relax or  
party -  it is all there .
If you like to travel and can make this trip you won't regret it.

Trouble Spots:
Elkins West Virginia - skaters being ticketed and harassed  all the time and 
it seems impossible to get a skatepark in the works. We will  host a workshop 
there in mid Aug in the hopes of helping them get a park  approved.
NJ - they need a workshop in the worst way - nothing but  skate / bmx 
problems in that state. 
Big Bear CA. - this park had a site but the city manager  is trying to stop 
the park and has put the site on hold .. and possibly for a  very long time. 
Big Bear politicians seem to think their community is "too good"  for a 
skatepark - the community is 100% behind the park but can't seem to get  past the 
local politicians.. crazy making stuff.

Good News:
Anniston AL has finally got a park approved and funded for Weaver. This  will 
be the first of several parks.
Cave City AR has land and is in the fundraising stages.
Venice CA . finally after 12 years they are in the design phase and should  
start construction in Oct.
Culver City CA. is in the design phase for a street plaza with a possible  
bowl.
The City of Santa Monica has started skateboard lessons at the Cove.
