Hi Everyone,
Lots of positive skatepark news this month.
Wheeling WV, Weaver / Anniston GA & Big Bear CA opened their first skatepark.
Wheeling has a beautiful skatepark that included BMX all through the years of planning and design only to have Grindline refuse to warranty the park if BMX rode it. They were cut out at the last minute.
The BMX riders will NOT ruin the park if it is built to standards and as far as I know Grindline builds to standards. This is more likely the skateboard industry trying to grow skateboarding at the expense of Inline and BMX kids.
It is just good business right? Make every kid who uses the park ride a skateboard. Good for the skateboard industry but the downside is the loss of individuality, loss of talent and loss of freedom.
Several groups have told me they were turned down for Tony Hawk grants because of BMX but Tony just signed on with a huge BMX / Bike manfacturer for TONY HAWK bikes.
Anyway - no other country does this and cities that have mixed use do not report any problems with either the park or the users.
